Abby's water safety tips

Greetings, everyone.

This is my personal assistant, Abby, with a public service announcement.

There is fun in the water
But there's danger too.
So you've got to swim well
So nothing happens to you.

Learn how to swim
But never swim alone;
It's fun with a buddy
But it's danger on your own.

And never dive
Unless you know
The water's not too shallow
And it's clear below.

Thank you for your polite attention.

Abby and I now return you to your regularly scheduled blog.

1 insisted on sticking two cents in:

Anonymous Anonymous offered these pearls of wisdom...

What a sad bastardization of this fine public service announcement from the early 70s!

First of all, to rob it of its totally ginchy surf groove is tragic enough, but then to water-down (no pun intended) the lyric borders on the criminal! You version starts and ends well, but the middle section is completely wrong!

The actual words are:

There is fun in the water
but there's danger too,
so you've got to swim well
so nothing happens to you.

Learn how to swim
but never swim alone
there's safety in numbers
don't strike out on your own

And never dive
unless you know
the water's not too shallot
and it's clear below!
