Movies I don't need to see
Want to know how I can save money at my local cineplex? By not shelling out my hard-earned simoleons for a ticket to any of the following:
- Another Star Trek flick. Even if it's produced by J.J. Abrams. Maybe especially if it's produced by J.J. Abrams. Let the sleeping dog die, already. Did we not learn anything from Star Trek: Nemesis?
- A film version of Will Eisner's The Spirit, directed by Frank Miller of Sin City fame. Eisner's strip, while set in a film noir milieu, was steadfastly witty, charming, and fun. Frank Miller understands nothing except violence, human degradation, and more violence. The fact that "scary" was the first adjective Miller used publicly to describe his take on The Spirit simply demonstrates that he is unworthy of putting his grubby hands on Eisner's legacy. Even if Eisner and Miller were friends.
- Another movie directed by M. Night Shyamalan. For pity's sake, Hollywood, stop giving this pretentious clown millions to fritter away.
- Any movie starring any Wayans brothers not named Keenen or Damon. (Even if Keenen directed.) For pity's sake, Hollywood, stop giving these pretentious clowns... well, you know.
- Gross-out horror flicks of the Saw/Hostel vein, i.e., The Descent. When I watch a movie, I want to be entertained, not feel the overwhelming compulsion to vomit afterward. Or feel vomited upon by no-talent filmmakers.
- Will Ferrell's new movie. Or any of Will Ferrell's old movies. Does the expression "one-trick pony" mean anything to you?
- Oliver Stone's World Trade Center. I shouldn't even have to explain myself on this one.
- Ivan Reitman's dreadful-looking My Super Ex-Girlfriend. When was the last time Ivan Reitman made a good movie? How long ago was Ghostbusters? 1984? Egad.

NO need to explain the WTC stance. If I were to explain it though I'd probably start with "too soon" and work from there.
I'm cautious about Shyamalan after The Village, but Lady looks interesting and I do like Giamatti's work.
Yeah, why DO Marlon and Shawn keep getting work? What happened to their older, funnier brothers? Is Damon still on that family sitcom?
Not a Ferrell fan either. The "save me Tom Cruise!" bit in the trailer is pretty funny, and I like that Cruise's friend from Days of Thunder is playing a similar role in this picture. I suspect that may be the best part of the film though, unless Steve Carell is involved in anyway. He stole the show for me in Anchorman a few times definitely.
Did you hear Ramis and Aykroyd have a script for a Ghostbusters 3 and have approached Ben Stiller? I definitely have mixed feelings about that....
I happen to like Anchorman. Sometimes, when you want to just go brain dead when watching a movie, you just gotta. Rob Schnider, on the other hand, just makes you want to slash your wrists.
Frank Miller doing "The Spirit"? I can just hear the dialoge now...
"Do you know who I am? I'm the g** d***** Spirit."
Get the bootleg pilot on DVD instead. I did and I was very happy over it.
How can you not love Will Ferrell? The guy does what he does. Check it out.

I was totally rooting for M. Night to come through this time, but it looks like early forecasts are predicting another miss.:(
